about your move to automatically resize all images to 640x400 or 320x200 and provide a useless 'expand' button on some but not all images.

Yeah. I hate how it seems like all the images with small text never have the expand button.

This is probably the 3rd or 4th time they have done this. And we have complained our asses off every time until they change it. Why the hell do they keep doing it?

Because why the fuck not? Like you said, there's nothing we can do about it.

This Chrome extension will enable you to right click on any image in Kinja and open it in a new tab at its original resolution. I originally made it back when there wasn't an "expand" option for the leading images, but I think it's still really useful.

The Star Chamber at Gawker seems to conjure up changes to Kinja and the blogs that do nothing to improve anything. The upcoming changes make a royal grade A mess of the commenting system (good luck trying to follow a thread...) and they damn sure don't improve stability. The users who actually make up the community scream and complain yet they shove it down our pieholes anyway.

Because Community means jack shit to advertisers. They're stuck in the short view that all that matters is getting eyes on ads. They're forgetting that it's a vibrant community that gets people to come BACK.
